NO! About three years into being a self-employed piano technician, I got t-boned in my car and broke my wrist. Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome? I also speak at industry events, teach classes on piano technology and marketing and organize fundraisers for music-related organizations both locally and nationwide. My days are typically spent handling both businesses advertising, working with customers and managing our staff of seven at Stilwell Pianos and 7 at The Piano Technicians Academy. Our school is made up of piano technicians and e-learning specialist located in Arizona, Portland OR, and Seattle WA. We are now the largest school in the world with over 350 students a year located all over the world. While building Stilwell Pianos, I started the first online piano tuning school in the world about seven years ago. Stilwell Pianos has grown over the last 13 years to be the largest used piano store in the valley at over 24,ooo sf. I started tuning pianos and eventually started selling pianos out of my house. I am a 3rd generation piano technician and I got into the industry when I was 20 years old. Michael, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Stilwell.
